One year on…

by co-founder Kate Matthews

Well, that’s one whole year of Save Our Mearns.

Happy anniversary!

Just 12 months since Tracey Smith and I met and started this campaign with Dawn Short and every one of you.

Just 12 months since our futures were threatened and our dreams put on pause.

Just 12 months since we realised how much of Scotland was under threat.Â

We’ve learnt that we’ve been lied to, that SSEN do not understand the difference between attendance and engagement and that our community is fierce when threatened.

We’ve learnt that SSEN think a show and tell will suffice, that this has nothing to do with saving the planet and that SSEN either don’t understand or don’t care how much damage they will cause.

What have we done about it?

We stood up! We’ve emailed, we’ve written and we’ve decided to fight. Thousands of you are not giving in, thousands of you are taking this further.

We’ve started a petition, been on a road trip to Holyrood and caused SSEN to make stupid mistakes demonstrating their ineptitude and untrustworthiness.

We’ve been all over the press, we’ve bombarded our elected representatives and we’ve started a fighting fund.

We’ve teamed up with groups along the Kintore to Tealing line and across Scotland to offer support, share knowledge and work towards our common goal of stopping SSEN.

Remember, David won, the tortoise triumphed and the fight is not over until you’ve won it.

Get involved, comment below, tell us your stories, share your photos.

Wind up your neighbours, raise awareness, help us with fundraising, share your expertise (off the record if necessary).

Just don’t let this happen on your watch without knowing that you did everything you could.
