Founders lift community award
Save Our Mearns co-founders Kate Matthews and Tracey Smith have been awarded a Community and Vocational Award by Laurencekirk and District Rotary Club for their campaigning work.
The awards recognise the people who have gone the extra mile in helping their neighbours and their community in the Laurencekirk area. This covers from Inverbervie to St Cyrus, Fordoun and Auchenblae to Fettercairn, and Luthermuir to Marykirk.
The Rotary Club said: “There were a record number of nominations this year and we thank everyone who nominated.
“Service is a guiding principle of the worldwide Rotary Movement. We want to recognise both that person who is contributing voluntarily as well as that person or business who in the performance of their job or business is doing something above and beyond what is expected.”
Community and Vocational Awards for 2024 also went to:
- Billy and Sabz Mahmood for their contributions to the communities of Auchenblae and Drumlithie
- Anne Williams of AW Pet Care and Dog Walking for her work with her Pet Care service and the extended help she provides to clients
- Allister (Sandy) Noble for his voluntary work for Auchenblae Community Association
- Arlene Dickson for her work as Lead Volunteer Youth Worker of Mearns Youth Club
- Barbara Coulter for her fund raising for Fettercairn Primary School and other charities
- Hilda Herald and Lyndia Donald for their voluntary catering service at the Dickson Hall, Laurencekirk
- Doug and Clive Mitchell of Douglas F Mitchell, Laurencekirk, for sponsoring, organising and supporting local charitable events
- Margaret Gray for her many and varied voluntary community efforts in Inverbervie
- David Milne for his volunteer driver work with Mearns and Coastal Healthy Living Network
We congratulate all the winners for everything they do in the community, and thank everyone who has supported us so far.
