SSEN Kintore-Tealing 400Kv OHL Connection & Substations

I write in response to SSEN’s recent public consultations and to share my objections to all of SSEN’s proposals for new overhead lines and substations.

My reasons include concerns that SSEN’s project if constructed will:

  • Damage the environment and ecology irreparably – net biodiversity gain does not excuse the wanton destruction of individual species and habitats.
  • Cause serious harm to the health, mental health and well-being of people living and working near overhead lines and substations.
  • Destroy the beauty of the landscape specifically the Braes of the Mearns designated as a Special Landscape Area
  • Damage tourism and local businesses, leaving local residents facing personal financial ruin.
  • Destroy people’s enjoyment of their homes and our countryside thus breaching their human rights.
  • Irreparably damage our farming industry – we will lose prime agricultural land and we risk the spread of disease along the line jeopardising the seed potato industry and our food security.

I object to SSEN’s proposals because no socio-economic impact assessment has been conducted to ascertain the cumulative impact of all SSEN’s Net Zero projects on Scotland’s macroeconomics looking at costs to our NHS, agricultural industry, property market, tourism industry and myriad small businesses.

I object that no EIA has been done to examine the cumulative impacts of all SSEN’s Net Zero projects across Scotland.

I further object that no comparison of costs for undergrounding or offshoring has been published for these projects; without that, it cannot be ascertained that these projects represent best value to consumers.

Please confirm that you have received this.
